2025 is already behind us and with that we would like to present you a progress we made on Destination Earth Data Lake initiative last year. In this update, we highlight some of the most impactful advancements already implemented to our portal and services. We will also offer a glimpse into the exciting updates still on the horizon.
Welcome to the new Destination Earth Data Lake website - your entry point to the Data Lake services. We are proud to share with you the results of our hard work these past few months. You should be able to spot the difference already - new design choices not only add a sense of freshness to the site, but also provide more intuitive navigation and improve overall user experience. While the re-branding surely caught your attention first, the real change lies beneath the surface. As you will discover while interacting with our services, we expanded existing capabilities and added multiple new features that will allow you to dive even deeper into DestinE ecosystem.
DestinE Data Lake, being one of the central component of Destination Earth Initiative, provides discovery, access, and big data processing services. It enables a seamless access to datasets included in DestinE Data Portfolio together with services enabling processing in proximity to the data – called Edge services.
One of the most significant additions of the past few months is a new user management platform My Data Lake Services . With this tool now available, you can seamlessly build you project, manage its members, and start working on a project together. The portal allows you to request access and set limits to the services you plan on using. The roles you will be able to access as a registered user are listed below:
After you're all set up - My Data Lake Services becomes your central control panel, whether you need to manage your project members, adjust the limits or simply monitor the state of play. Do you want to gain direct access to the full suite of DestinE services? Getting started is simple - just click Sign In in the top right corner of the website and dive in. If you are still not sure which services and roles are relevant for your work and how to gain access to them - do not worry, we came prepared. Check out our comprehensive documentation with step by step instructions on how to navigate all the features that come with the platform: My Data Lake Services Documentation .
Moving forward, we’re excited to announce a major expansion to the Harmonized Data Access (HDA) data portfolio. We've added over 20 new datasets, each offering unique insights and opportunities for EO data exploration. You can discover and learn more about them in the Data Portfolio tab. Are you interested in interacting with data? Our other Edge services such as STACK and HOOK will allow you to access, download and process selected data. Whether you're conducting research, building applications, or simply exploring the DestinE data portfolio, these services open up new possibilities.
To support your journey through the DestinE ecosystem, we’ve completed a comprehensive documentation update. It’s now easier than ever to find detailed guidance and technical information. For those looking for hands-on examples, our Jupyter Notebooks , now available in beta, offers real-life use cases to help you get started with specific services and workflows. And if you're new to the initiative or looking to deepen your understanding, our newly published Learn section provides structured training materials that walk you through the vision behind Destination Earth and guide you step by step through even the most complex topics.
Looking ahead, we’re preparing to roll out even more enhancements. Soon, you’ll benefit from tailored support and an AI-powered chatbot designed to offer real-time support and help you make the most out of everything DestinE Data Lake has to offer.
This is just the beginning. Stay tuned as we continue to expand our data offerings, introduce new functionalities, and deliver exciting upgrades that bring the Destination Earth vision closer to reality.
