Destination Earth Data Lake
DestinE Data Lake is one of the central component of Destination Earth Initiative. The portal provides discovery, access, and big data processing services. It enables a seamless access to datasets included in DestinE Data Portfolio together with services enabling processing in proximity to the data.
The Data Lake is operated by the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT).
Destination EarthData Lake
The DestinE Data Lake (DEDL) contributes to help us better understand our ecosystem, enhance decision-making process, and enable us to build a better, safer and more sustainable future. DEDL grants its users access to huge quantities of various data including (EO) Earth Observation data from satellite images.
The portal provides discovery, access, and big data processing tools through tailored services. Data Lake infrastructure is distributed among five different data centers located all over Europe.
DestinE Ecosystem
DestinE allows users to access thematic information, services, models, scenarios, simulations, forecasts and visualisations. The DestinE ecosystem aims to support the needs of a large and diverse community of users including citizens, scientists and academics, commercial entities, and policy makers. The main components of the DestinE system are:
Digital Twins
DestinE is creating several digital Earth replicas covering different aspects of the Earth system. ECMWF is implementing the Digital Twin Engine, the complex software and data services needed for Earth System digital replicas, as well as the first two digital twins; Climate Change Adaptation Twin, which provides multidecadal simulations, and the Weather-induced Extremes twin, with both high-resolution forecasts and on-demand simulations.
DestinE Platform
The DestinE Platform is the point of entry to DestinE. Its main aim is to integrate and operate an open ecosystem of services to support DestinE-data exploitation and information sharing for the benefit of DestinE users and Third-Party entities. The platform provides users with evidence-based decision-making tools, applications and services, based on an open, flexible, and secure cloud-based computing infrastructure.
Data Lake
The data lake brings together data from ESA, EUMETSAT, ECMWF as well as from Copernicus, and many other diverse sources, along with new data from the Digital Twins. It will allow discovery and data access as well as big data processing in the cloud. It provides seamless access to datasets via GUIs and APIs, regardless of data type and location. The Data Lake is operated by the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT).

MY DATA LAKE SERVICES
The platform allows you to see and mange all the services that compose the DestinE Data Lake initiative. My Data Lake Services attends to the needs of organizations and institutions that utilize EO Data in their work. You can sign up your organization and become its administrator or simply join an existing group as a member via invitation code. The Portal allows you to manage access as well as set limits (quotas) to each service offered by DEDL. Keep in mind that those services will not be available for you to use until both access and quota roles are requested and granted by our Approval Board. To properly set up your organization, make sure that you request access to all the tools you would like to use immediately, as the approval process may take up to a few days.
ISLET
A DestinE Data Lake EDGE service on DEDL providing cloud compute resources and deployment blueprints for users that require full control over the virtual infrastructure. ISLET Service is available on Two sites: Central with data center located in Warsaw Poland, and Lumi - located in Finland.
HOOK
A DestinE Data Lake EDGE service providing high level pre-defined and user-defined functions (conceptually like FaaS) that users can invoke from their applications and apply on the DestinE Data Lake data.
STACK
A DestinE Data Lake EDGE service providing hosted applications/environments such as JupyterHub, Dask/Dask Gateway, Open Data Cube in which users can bring their algorithms/code and execute them on DestinE Data Lake data.
HARMONIZED DATA ACCESS
An API to act as a unified and harmonized access to all DestinE Data Lake data (federated data and Digital Twin outputs) and services. It includes a STAC catalog allowing to browse through all datasets and services and an access service allowing both direct data download and data harvesting into a user location.
FRESH DATA POOL
DEDL internal cache for fast data discovery and access. DEDL FDP is made of 2 parts: an internal cache with data stored on a S3 bucket on DEDL central site and CREODIAS.
